Sutter Park is the home to Worthington City Schools' Early Childhood Program for children with special needs and typically developing children. We offer a range of services to students on IEPs while incorporating peer role models. We currently have 13 half-day teachers who have around 12 students in a morning class and 12 students in an afternoon class. Half of their students have been identified with special needs and half of their students are typically developing peers who serve as role models in the program.  Our 3 year-olds and early 4 year-olds attend the morning classes and our older four year-olds and 5 year-olds attend the afternoon classes. 

We also have 3 half-day teachers who have up to 6 special needs students in their classrooms but no typically developing peers. This program is now called Foundations.  Students are placed in the Foundations program based upon the intense needs identified in their IEPs.  Additionally, we have 2 half-day teachers who have up to 6 special needs students and 2-3 typically peer role models. This program is called our Cross-Categorical classroom. 

Principal Tricia Winland joined Sutter Park Preschool in the fall of 2017. She brings a wealth of knowledge in the areas of special education, intervention and assessment. 

Dr. Winland is entering her 18th year as an educator. She was an elementary Special Education teacher for 6 years in Springboro, Ohio. She moved back to her hometown of Columbus and was a special education supervisor and elementary principal with Columbus City Schools for 5 years. Ms. Winland has been with Worthington City Schools for the past 5years. She received her bachelor's degree (Intervention Specialist) and master's degree (Education Administration) from the University of Dayton. She recently completed a doctoral program at The Ohio State University, specializing in Education Administration and Special Education.

  Sutter Park Preschool Staff members are experts in providing early intervention and instruction to students ages 3-5. All Sutter Park teachers are licensed Intervention Specialists that provide instruction following Ohio's Early Learning and Development Standards.

  Each classroom has an assigned paraprofessional that are trained and knowledgable in working with students with special needs. Our program also has several related service providers, such as Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, a Physical Therapist and an Adaptive Physical Education Teacher.
