    MathCounts
    Adviser:  Nickie Meyer
MathCounts is an individual and team math competition.  All students are welcome to participate, as long as they enjoy math and mathematical problem solving. Practice will take place weekly after school beginning in early October. Students take turns providing snacks for practices. MathCounts students participate in 3 competitions each year - Local (Worthington) in January, Regional (Central Ohio) in February, and State (in March). All participants go to the local Competition; the top 10 students go to the Regional Competition (including the top 4 on the McCord Team). Regional Competition results determine if students move on the State Competition.

    Girl Talk
    Adviser:  Cathy Eggleston

Girl Talk is a peer mentoring program:  high school girls mentor middle school girls to help them deal with the issues they face during their formative early teenage years.  Girl Talk helps young teenage girls build self-esteem, develop leadership skills and recognize the value of community service.  In doing so, the girls develop confidence, leadership and compassion.  Girl Talk provides the curriculum of life lessons used to facilitate the discussions at no charge.   Girl Talk's program is twofold:  high school leaders have the opportunity to share their experiences as role models and middle school girls have the chance to learn that they are not alone in the issues they face.  That understanding, kindness and compassion can be the foundation for better relationships with others.

    WEB Leader
    Adviser:  Cathy Eggleston
WEB is a middle school orientation and transition program that welcomes 7th graders and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their middle school experience.  Built on the belief that students can help students succeed, the program trains mentors from our 8th grade class to be WEB leaders.  As positive role models, WEB Leaders are mentors and student leaders who guide the 7th graders to discover what it takes to be successful during the transition to middle school.  7th graders receive support and guidance from 8th graders who have been through the challenges that middle school poses and understand that the transition to a larger school can sometimes be overwhelming.

    Recycling Club
    Adviser:  Judy Harn
The Recycling Club takes an active role in protecting our environment.  They are responsible for emptying the paper recycling bins located in the classrooms, library, and offices at McCord . This is done once a week before school, during advisory, or after school. Recycling club typically works together in small groups to empty the bins into larger containers to be picked up by the recycling company. This club helps reduce our carbon footprint which is great for our environment.

    Ski Club
    Adviser:  Janel Day
Ski Club is open to any McCord student interested in snowboarding or skiing at Mad River Mountain in the winter. Ski Club will be on Monday nights and will run for 5 weeks beginning the first part of January. Students will have a variety of passes that they can select and purchase from Mad River to meet their needs. Ski equipment is not necessary as it can be rented from the facility. Students who have never skied or snowboarded can purchase lessons as part of their package. The lessons are then given each time the student arrives at the ski resort. Charter buses leave McCord at 3:45pm and return to McCord at 10 pm. Students who purchase a pass can continue to use the pass throughout the skiing season at Mad River, even after Ski Club is over. This is a great way for students to get involved at McCord! SKI CLUB WEBSITE

    Intramural Basketball
    Adviser:  Brad Whitlatch
Intramural basketball is open to all 7th and 8th grade boys and girls at McCord or Phoenix students that would attend McCord. Participation in intramural sports allows students to enjoy learning the activity without the pressure to compete and win.  Such an environment will enable students to extend learning of the benefits of movement, develop positive attitudes, increase self -esteem, enjoy positive social interactions, and broaden their fitness and leisure horizons. Intramural basketball will begin in December and end in January.  Coaches will offer ten sessions of skill development and game action.  The fee to participate is $25 which includes a uniform (shirt and shorts students get to keep) and a pizza party at the end of the sessions.  Information to sign up will be available at the end of November
