    Common Core Standards

In 2009, the State of Ohio required that all school districts adopt the Common Core Standards in English Language Arts and Math by the 2014-2015 school year. The purpose of these new standards is to ensure our students are career and college ready. Under the Core, we can now compare the academic achievement of students in Worthington to students across the country and the world.

Critical thinking skills, a more rigorous curriculum and an emphasis on teacher collaboration are all a part of the Core. It represents a new way of learning for our students, with real life applications and skills that can take them beyond the classroom. With these new standards, it is our hope that Worthington students will have the educational foundation they need to compete in the global economy.

Parents and teachers play a vital role in the new learning standards as we progress towards full implementation. Worthington Schools created this web page and a Communication Plan to provide the most up-to-date information on the Core and its impact on our students and schools. We look forward to your questions, comments and participation in this important initiative.

Communication of the New Learning Standards is essential.  A Communication Plan has been developed and will be continuously updated as we progress toward full implementation in the 2014-15 school year.
